UFL metes two-year ban on supporter who assaulted youth player in Under-17 game

    Jun 27, 2014

THE United Football League has cracked the whip on the Agila FC fan who assaulted a Nomads FC player during a UFL Youth League U-17 semifinal match last Sunday at the Emperador Stadium in Taguig.

The UFL executive committee has slapped a two-year ban on the Agila supporter, whose identity was not divulged, prohibiting him from coming within 100 meters of a venue of any UFL-related activity.

The league, which also fined Agila P30,000 for failing to control its supporters, launched an investigation into the incident and found that the said supporter came to the defense of his godson, an Agila booter, who engaged a Nomads counterpart, the victim, in a heated argument.

Newly appointed UFL general manager Rely San Agustin justified the length of the fan’s suspension, stressing the league’s stance against any form of violence, especially coming from spectators.

"This is an unfortunate incident and the UFL will not tolerate such abuse. The league cares about the youth as they are the future of Philippine football. Any harm done to these players, especially by adults, is inexcusable. We hope this serves as a lesson to everyone. Zero tolerance.”
