STALLION FC showcases its Filipino talent as it locks horns with Green Archers United in the United Football League on Thursday at the Emperador Stadium in Taguig.
With their chances of retaining the title over, the Stallions try to experiment with their lineup instead and give more exposure to their locals starting against the Archers at 5:15 p.m.
“Toward the end of the season, my expectation is for me to actually play more of the local players,” Stallions coach Ernie Nierras said. “Don’t be surprised when you see me play all local players and no foreign players.”
UAAP standouts Nathan Alquiros and the coach’s son Matthew Nierras of La Salle and University of the East’s Fitch Arboleda are expected to get more playing time for the Stallions who, however, will miss Azkals Ruben Doctora Jr. and Simone Rota.
The fourth-running Stallions are relishing their new role as spoilers to the top teams after being eliminated from the title race, having held league-leaders and powerhouse squads Global FC and Loyola Meralco to draws in the last two games.
“That’s what we have to continue to do right now,” Nierras said. "Regardless of who we play, we just have to get back to our way of playing, which is all-out, going crazy for ninety minutes.”
Stallion, which currently has 24 points, 14 behind leader Global FC, face a fellow middle-of-the-pack Archers side that is on a resurgence.
The fifth-running Archers have won four of their last five games and are just four points behind the Stallions.
Pachanga and Philippine Army, tied with 17 points, collide in the nightcap at 7:30 p.m.
