SOCCEROO quashed whatever was left of Pasargad’s hopes of staying in Division 1 of the United Football League as it won the battle of cellar-dwellers, 6-2, on Sunday night at the Emperador Stadium in Taguig.
Ensuring it won’t be one and done in the top tier, the newly promoted side drew a hat-trick from Lee Jeong Woo and a goal each from Kennedy Uzoka, Seung Yeon Min, and Diego Barrera to score the one-sided victory.
Socceroo thus increased its points total to 16 points to tighten its grip of eighth spot and widen its lead on Division 2-bound Pasargad which was left stuck at six points with only three games to go.
“Proud of the effort tonight, we are staying up,” Socceroo skipper Enzo Pinga tweeted after the last Division 1 match this month before heading into the international break.
In a battle between relegation-threatened sides, it was Socceroo that showed more desire as Lee struck twice within the first six minutes of the game.
After Michael Ebare pulled a goal back for Pasargad, Uzoka and Seung joined the Socceroo scoring party to give their team a commanding 4-1 lead entering halftime.
Lee completed his three-goal effort in the 73rd, before Barrera put the exclamation point in the rout nine minutes before stoppage time. Hamed Fateh’s penalty conversion for Pasargad in the 79th sandwiched Lee and Barrera’s goals.
