THE opening of the 2021 season of the Philippines Football League has been moved to a tentative date of September 25 due to COVID-19, the Philippine Football Federation announced on Monday.
2021 PFL opening schedule
The league was supposed to open on August 21, but the reimposition of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in Metro Manila and nearby areas forced the change.
“The league prioritizes the health and safety of the players, coaching staff, match officials, sponsors, and other stakeholders involved in the organization of the matches.
“PFF and PFL officials also urge everyone to continue practicing the minimum health and safety protocols in their communities to help the nation combat the spread of the virus,” said the PFF in a statement.

Carmona, Cavite is expected to remain as the site for the PFL season with the initial plan being the fixtures will be conducted in a home-venue-home set-up.
United City FC was one of the six clubs that competed last season, but reports said a number of teams have expressed interest to join the league.
