LOYOLA Meralco remained unbeaten, while Green Archers United finally barged into the win column as both teams posted convincing victories against separate opponents in the United Football League on Sunday at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
James Younghusband left a huge stamp in the Sparks’ 4-0 romp over Pachanga Diliman after the undermanned Archers notched a first victory in three matches with a 3-0 decision of Philippine Army, behind Dani del Rio.
Younghusband registered two goals and assisted on another one as Loyola stayed unscathed after three starts for nine points, just one behind league-leading Global FC, although the Sparks have played one game less than the defending champions.
Del Rio also fired a brace, while Boyet Cañedo chipped in a goal as well as he stepped up in the absence of Chieffy Caligdong and Tating Pasilan for the Archers, who hiked their point total to four points for fifth spot.
Younghusband fed Tahj Minniecon for the opening goal just three minutes into the match, before the latter returned the favor by connecting with the Azkals mainstay, who doubled the lead in the 30th minute.
After Graham Caygill scored for Loyola barely a minute after intermission, Younghusband completed his effort with a penalty conversion to put the outcome beyond reach.
“He’s the captain and we expect nothing less,” Sparks coach Simon McMenemy said of Younghusband.
