LOYOLA Meralco leaned on a balanced attack to overpower Philippine Army, 7-0, on Saturday and stay within striking distance of the leader in the United Football League at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

James Younghusband and Graham Caygill registered a brace each, while Phil Younghusband, Lee Joo Young, and Simon Greatwich added a goal apiece for the Sparks, who increased their point total to 12 points to stay firmly in second spot behind Global FC.

The Sparks also handed the cellar-dwelling Troopers their fifth straight setback that left them as the only team in the Division 1 standings without a point.

Socceroo and Pachanga-Diliman finally booked their first points of the season after fighting to a 1-1 draw earlier.

Coming off their first loss of the tournament, a 2-1 defeat at hands of Stallion last Saturday, the Sparks started strong as James Younghusband opened the scoring 23 minutes in the match when he connected on a header off a corner kick.

The prominent Azkal, who scored his second goal six minutes after intermission, was also a facilitator by assisting on Caygill’s second goal in the 38th minute.

Caygill, a Filipino-British national team prospect, fired his first goal in the 33rd minute off the rebound.

Lee Jeong Woo, a former Socceroo go-to guy, became a villain for his previous team, slotting home the goal that broke the ice in the 36th minute for Pachanga, before Socceroo equalized in the second half courtesy of Nigerian striker Beleu Cleopas.
