'Lazy' Global FC snaps out of stupor just in time to frustrate Pasargad

    Jan 21, 2014

Global FC shrugged off another early deficit before rolling to a 3-1 victory over Pasargad in the United Football League on Tuesday night at the Emperador Stadium in Mckinley Hill.

Once again starting on the back foot like in its 2-1 win over Kaya, Global showed enough resolve to climb out of the hole en route to its second successive victory.

Skipper Ben Starosta, Milad Behgandom, and Marvin Angeles struck with a goal apiece for Global, which now has six points in the nine-team Division 1 standings.

Pasargad dropped its first game after scoring a draw the last time.

Coming in knowing they were the favorites, the former UFL champions seemed to underestimate Pasargad in the first half, where the players were “lazy," coach Leigh Manson described.

“Maybe we thought the game was our game, we thought we had a right to take the three points, but nobody has a right to three points,” the Scottish mentor said.

It was evident in the 29th minute when Pasargad defender Jaham Taher was left unmarked, and given time and space from near the midline to fire a stunning long-range missile that went past goalkeeper Paolo Pascual.

“We started off really sloppy, everything was a little bit too slow, but we came in the second half and knew what we needed to do,” said Starosta, who was deployed at right wing after usually being part of the back four.

The Polish utility man appeared to thrive in his new position as he equalized for Global in the 37th minute.

After Behgandom, one of the team’s Iranian acquisitions, scored off the rebound during a scramble inside the box to turn the game around in the 67th, Angeles joined the scoring fray 12 minutes later to put the outcome beyond doubt.
