KAYA FC stunned Loyola Meralco, 2-1, behind Robert Mendy’s heroics to advance to the United Football League Cup semifinals on Saturday night at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
Kaya fell into one-goal hole in the first half, before making a fightback after intermission in a much-awaited quarterfinal matchup that lived up to its billing.
Kaya arranged a Final Four meeting against the survivor of the Ceres-La Salle-Forza matchup on Sunday.
James Younghusband put the Sparks up seven minutes before first-half stoppage time with a header off a free kick, before Masa Omura equalized for Kaya with his own header off a corner in the 73rd minute.
Right when the match was about to go into second-half injury time, Mendy fired a missile in a clinical finish to frustrate the Sparks.
