    Kaya FC, Loyola Meralco Sparks score contrasting wins to keep 1-2 spots in UFL

    KAYA FC and Loyola Meralco posted victories against separate foes in contrasting fashion on Saturday night to keep the top two spots in the United Football at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

    Kaya pummeled Pachanga-Diliman, 6-2, before the Sparks survived Global FC, 1-0, as the winners improved to identical 18 points, although Kaya is ahead on goal difference.

    Louis Clark fired his second brace of the season, Christian Ayew registered two goals as well, while OJ Porteria and Younousse Yaogo were also on target for Kaya, which dealt Pachanga its fifth loss in seven outings to remain in seventh spot with four points.

    The Sparks leaned on Phil Younghusband, who scored the lone goal that mattered early in the first half to hand Global a second straight defeat that left the defending UFL champions stuck in fourth spot with 13 points.

    It was actually Global’s third loss in a row counting the 2-0 defeat at the hands of Malaysia’s Yadanarbon in the Asian Football Confederation Cup last Thursday.

    Younghusband made the biggest difference in the tightly fought match between league heavyweights as the Azkals star struck off a cross 28 minutes into the match.

    Philippine Army barged into the point column after battling Manila Jeepney to a 2-2 draw in the curtain-raiser of the triple-bill, although the Troopers remained at the bottom, while Jeepney remained in eighth spot.
