KAYA FC-Iloilo will hold its home matches of the 2019 AFC Cup at the Panaad Stadium in Bacolod City, the club announced recently.
The club said they decided to hold their home matches in Panaad as Iloilo Sports Complex didn’t pass the standards of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).
“The club wanted nothing more than to bring AFC Cup football to the Iloilo Sports Complex (ISC), but despite exhausting all efforts to prepare the venue, ISC remains short of the stadium standards required to host an Asian Football Confederation (AFC) contest,” said Kaya FC-Iloilo in a statement.
“Currently, the only available AFC-approved stadium in the Philippines is Panaad Stadium, and the Negros Occidental government, along with Ceres Negros, have been gracious in welcoming us,” the club added.
Kaya FC-Iloilo thanked the Provincial Government of Iloilo for its efforts to upgrade the Iloilo Sports Complex into AFC standards.
“We remain committed to developing football in the region, and we are hopeful that soon we will be able to give Iloilo a firsthand experience of the excitement of hosting AFC matches,” said the club.
Kaya FC added the team will still be training in Iloilo and called on its supporters to make the short trip from Iloilo to Bacolod to support the team in the 2019 AFC Cup.
Kaya made it to the AFC Cup after finishing runners-up in last year’s Philippines Football League. Kaya is bracketed in Group H along with Home United, Lao Toyota, and PSM Makassar.
