KAYA FC-Iloilo clinched its second straight league title in the Philippines Football League (PFL) after its 1-0 win over Davao Aguilas-UMAK FC on Sunday night at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
Jarvey Gayoso scored on a penalty in the 18th minute after being brought down inside the box in his final match in a Kaya uniform to put Iloilo up for good.
Goalkeeper Walid Birrou then saved the day as he denied Davao's Urel Dalapo's penalty in the 81st minute to preserve the win for Kaya.
The Iloilo-based squad virtually won the league crown with still one match to play by improving to 12-1-0 win-draw-loss for 37 points, four ahead of second-running Dynamic Herb Cebu FC.
Kaya FC-Iloilo will formally capture the PFL crown after its final match against Loyola FC on Saturday at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
Entering the match, Kaya FC-Iloilo was put in a position to win the crown on Sunday after Dynamic Herb Cebu FC suffered a 2-1 loss to Stallion Laguna FC last Saturday.
The Cebu booters fell to their second defeat in 13 games, missing out on the chance of capturing their first league title.
