SOMETHING has got to give as the two remaining unbeaten clubs in the United Football League square off on Saturday night at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
Kaya FC and Ceres-La Salle face off in the main event of the Division 1 double-header 8:15 p.m. with the winner of the marquee matchup emerging unscathed.
The Azkals-loaded Ceres, running fifth with nine points, is an offensive juggernaut, averaging a league-high four goals in their first three matches, the last a 7-0 rout against Philippine Army last week.
But the newly promoted side takes on a stern test in a defensively resolute Kaya side that has yet to concede a goal in the tournament after four outings.
“Strikers and goalscorers get all the plaudits, but without a solid back four and a keeper, it’s very hard to go and win games,” said Kaya coach Adam Reekie, whose team is running second with 12 points. “We’ve got a good selection of players in there.”
The English-American mentor banks on a backline anchored by skipper Aly Borromeo as well as goalkeeper Nick O’Donnell, a defensive unit that lived up to its billing in a 2-0 shutout of defending champion Global FC last Saturday.
Manila Jeepney and Pachanga-Diliman collide earlier at 5:15 p.m. with both bottom-half squads trying to their one-point tally.
