Kaya, Archers settle for scoreless draw

    Feb 1, 2014

THEIR offense leaving much to be desired, Kaya FC and Green Archers United settled for a scoreless draw in the United Football League on Saturday night at the Emperador Stadium.

Aside from missing their top strikers, both clubs also lacked cutting edge in the final third as they failed to come up with the victory, settling for a point each.

Kaya, which now totes a 2-1-2 win-draw-loss card, still moved a place up to third spot with seven points, ahead of Philippine Army on goal difference, while the Archers moved ahead of Socceroo in seventh place.

Joven Bedic had an early botched opportunity in the first half, while Masa Omura’s header was saved by Arnie Pasinabo Jr. late in the game for Kaya, whose coach David Perkovic was disappointed with the result.

“Unfortunately in many games in the UFL, if you don’t capitalize early, the game doesn’t open up,” the Australian mentor said. “I was happy that we kept a clean sheet. That’s the positive out of it.”

The presence of OJ Porteria, who was suspended for yellow-card accumulation, could’ve have been the difference.

“We can’t rely on one player. But in a game like this, he might’ve scored a hat-trick or he might’ve scored nothing,” Perkovic said. “Who knows? It’s hard to say.”

The Archers were without injured Chieffy Caligdong, but were able to conjure attempts that just failed to find the mark.

Tating Pasilan had a near goal that went wide 10 minutes into game, before he had to leave 11 minutes later after aggravating a lower back when he fell on his back.

“Nung nawala si Tating malaking bagay yun,” Archers coach Rodolfo Alicante said. “But actually I was satisfied with the performance,” “May mga chances kami na hindi lang na-convert.”
