IT didn’t take long for Milad Behgandom to stamp his mark in his return to the starting lineup as he led Global FC to a 7-0 rout of Pasargad that kept the team's firm hold of the top spot in the United Football League on Saturday night at the Emperador Stadium in Taguig.
In his first start in three games, the Iranian striker registered a hat-trick within the first 20 minutes of the match, setting the tone of the one-sided victory that extended Global’s cushion over second-running Loyola Meralco to four points.
Four others found the back of the net for Global, which also stretched its winning streak to five games and compounded the difficulties of bottom team Pasargad, which suffered a sixth straight loss.
In the quickest goal of the season, Behgandom headed home Global’s opener 10 seconds into the match, before doubling his tally in the 15th minute when he stole a back pass by a Pasargad defender to score into an empty net. Five minutes later, he converted his second header and third goal.
Behgandom, who was subbed at the half, thus became the second Global player to reach double figures in scoring this season with 11 after Mark Hartmann, who increased his tally to 19 after chipping in a goal in the ninth minute.
Daisuke Sato, the teenage Filipino-Japanese left-winger, struck his first goal for the powerhouse club since being acquired three weeks before, scoring off the rebound from a Hartmann miss.
Then Charlie Pettys scored off a Curt Dizon cross to give the Dan Palami-owned side a commanding six-goal lead at intermission.
Left-back Jeffrey Christiaens, thrust to his natural left-wing position after the restart with the entry of Jerry Barbaso, completed the rout with a volley off Pettys in the 67th.
