Global takeover looms as it takes on Pachanga in UFL

LURKING behind league-leading Loyola Meralco, Global FC finally gets its first crack at the top spot when it meets struggling Pachanga-PLDT Home Fibr in the United Football League on Tuesday at the Emperador Stadium in Taguig.

Victory for Global will enable the powerhouse squad to move two points clear on top.

A win could also tip the balance of the title race, but Global coach Leigh Manson is solely focused on the looming task and not thinking that far ahead.

The match kicks off at 7:30 p.m.

“We will think about the big picture in another six, seven games,” the Scottish mentor told Spin.ph on Monday. “Until then, it is really just one game at a time.”

Global has been unstoppable recently, riding the momentum of three consecutive wins, the last two blowouts — a 9-1 rout over Philippine Army and a 9-0 shutout of Socceroo.

Global, which dumped Pachanga, 4-1, in the first round, is the odds-on favorite against the seventh-running side, which has failed to register a win in the last four games with three draws and one loss.

Mark Hartmann, the league’s leading scorer with 18 goals to show with still over a full round of games to play, tries to sustain his sizzling form as he spearheads Global against Nate Burkey and the rest of Pachanga.

“If my players do their job on and off the ball, we have a good chance of winning the game. However, as this season has shown, you can’t take any game lightly,” Manson said.

A prime example is Green Archers United’s 2-1 upset of Loyola last Saturday in a result that helped Global to inch closer.

Kaya FC, running third in the nine-team standings, tries to remain in the mix of contenders as it faces cellar-dwelling Pasargad at 5:15 p.m.
