Global FC eager to bounce back in UFL after Singapore Cup heartbreak

JUST when everyone thought Global FC ran out of motivation, the United Football League pacesetter found one.

On the cusp of the UFL crown with a huge cushion over the rest of the field, Global incurred a harsh reality check over the weekend when it absorbed a 0-7 hammering at the hands of DPMM Brunei in the Singapore Cup.

Now, Global is back at home soil with a renewed vigor on Thursday when it takes on Philippine Army at the Emperador Stadium.

“We’re very keen to play after embarrassing the club in Singapore,” Global coach Leigh Manson said on the eve of the 5:15 p.m. encounter with the Troopers.

“We are all keen to show what Global FC really means,” the Scottish mentor added. “So we can get very close to winning the league, giving our fans something to smile about, to feel proud of the club.”

Buoyed by Kaya FC’s 0-2 loss to Green Archers United on Tuesday, Global, with 47 points in 19 matches, only needs to win two of its last five meetings to take home its second league crown in three years.

Manson said he is fielding a full-strength squad with Azkals Daisuke Sato, Amani Aguinaldo, and Jason de Jong back and fellow national team pool members Jeffrey Christiaens and Misagh Bahadoran also fully healed from their injuries.

That’s bad news for the Troopers, who have lost five of their last six games and are running seventh in the nine-team standings with 17 points.

Loyola Meralco, tied with Kaya in second spot, collides with sixth-running Pachanga in the nightcap at 8 o’clock.
