DAVAO Aguilas-UMAK FC will look to make a mark in the 2024-2025 Philippines Football League with a reinforced line-up.
Former United City players Paolo Bugas, Miggy Clarino, and Troy Limbo have joined the Aguilas that will be out to improve on their fourth-place finish last season.
“With the leadership of Mike (Atayde, club president) and coach (Aber Ruzgal), I think we will do very well this season,” said Davao Aguilas-UMAK chairman Jeff Cheng during a recent press conference.
Founded in 2017, the Aguilas are actually two years in from their return to the professional scene after they competed in the 2023 Copa Paulino Alcantara where they placed second over Kaya FC-Iloilo.
During the 2023-2024 season, Davao Aguilas-UMAK was only behind league champion Kaya FC-Iloilo, Dynamic Herb Cebu, and Stallion Laguna FC.
“We consider ourselves, in a way, an underdog because we were starting again,” said Cheng.
Cheng also likes the good mix of players that the team has for the coming season.
“We are the only professional club in Mindanao. There’s a lot of players coming from Mindanao and international players as well,” said Cheng.
The Aguilas will open the league on Saturday with a match against Loyola FC at 4 p.m. at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
