    Ceres-La Salle, Loyola Meralco score contrasting wins to gain provisional UFL lead over Global FC

    CERES-LA Salle and Loyola Meralco scored contrasting victories to temporarily move ahead of erstwhile pacesetter Global FC in the United Football League on Saturday night at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

    The Busmen overhauled an early deficit to pull off a hard-earned 4-2 win over JP Voltes after the Sparks hardly broke a sweat in shutting out Forza, 4-0, in the first match of the double-header.

    Ceres and Loyola thus jacked their respective point tallies to 15 after six matches, ahead of Global on goal difference, although the latter still has a match on hand.

    Ceres, which gained the provisional lead with the superior goal difference among the Top Three squads at +42, went down, lost an early lead before going down, 2-1, before the end of the first half.

    But it only took a four-minute spell early in the second half where Stephan Schrock, Orman Okunaiya, and Patrick Reichelt found the back of the net to regain command for good and keep Voltes in fourth spot with 10 points in six matches.

    The Sparks, on the other hand, leaned on a second-half surge behind the Younghusband brothers to blank Forza.

    Phil and James Younghusband fired a brace each in the second half after the Sparks wound up scoreless in the first half to leave Forza stuck in second to the last spot in the 12-club standings with a solitary point.
