CERES La Salle and Kaya FC turned their respective United Football League Cup matches on Thursday night at the Rizal Memorial Stadium into virtual workouts for the Asian Football Confederation Cup.
League titlist Ceres overwhelmed Pasargad, 9-0, before the Bacolod-based side comes home for its AFC Cup opener against Malaysian side Selangor at Panaad Stadium on Tuesday.
Kaya, the defending Cup champion, waltzed past Agila, 5-1, in a prelude to its AFC Cup debut also on Tuesday against Kitchee of Hong Kong in the opponent’s turf.
Adrian Gallardo struck four goals, while Stephan Schrock fired a hat-trick for Ceres, which remained unbeaten after three matches in Group B.
Kaya, on the other hand, leaned on a brace by OJ Porteria and a goal each from Aly Borromeo, Joven Bedic, and Kenshiro Daniels to notch a second straight victory after starting the season-opening tournament with a loss in Group A.
Meanwhile, the league upheld Green Archers United’s protest against Gobal FC for violating the foreigner player rule in their match last Saturday.
The UFL Disciplinary Committee has reversed the outcome of Global’s 2-1 win to the Archers’ favor after the former league champion exceeded the number of foreigners allowed in the match-day squad.
