CERES-LA Salle sustained its sizzling streak in the United Football League, taming Stallion FC, 3-0, on a rainy Sunday night at the Rizal Memorial Stadium to keep in step with the league leaders.
Adrian Gallardo fired a brace, while Juani Guirado found the back of the net as well for the newly promoted side, which notched a fifth win in as many matches to remain the only unbeaten club left in the tournament.
Ceres moved two places up to third spot with 15 points, tied with their victims and behind Kaya FC and Loyola Meralco by three, but having played two games less than the leaders.
After the match was temporarily halted 10 minutes in due to a technical glitch that caused some of the lights to turn off, it was Gallardo’s turn to shoot the lights out.
The Spanish striker headed home a feed three minutes before first-half stoppage time, before doubling the lead with a conversion in the 77th minute.
Gallardo could’ve had a hat-trick, but his attempt in the 55th hit the post.
Guirado, an Azkals defender, put the exclamation point with a strike off a free kick a minute into second-half injury time.
Jhan-Jhan Melliza likewise was on target to lift Green Archers United to a 5-0 victory over Socceroo.
The Far Eastern University star registered two goals in just six minutes, while Boyet Cañedo, Robert Mendy, and Daniel del Rio struck as well for the Archers, who improved to eight points.
Socceroo, on the other hand, absorbed its fifth loss in six matches to get stuck in eighth spot with still a point to show.
