UNCERTAIN about his appeal to overturn or reduce his one-year ban in the United Football League, Rufo Sanchez has signed a one-year contract with Thai premier league side PTT Rayong FC.
The reigning UFL Golden Ball winner confirmed the news on his Twitter account, @rufinho9, late Wednesday, giving his new club a boost after finishing third place in Thailand's top flight last season.
After getting slapped with a hefty suspension last October for getting caught in the middle of a contract dispute between Global FC and Stallion FC, the Spanish strike star launched an appeal to shorten the ban.
But the UFL has yet to decide on the petition, among other related matters, even after forming an appeals committee two months ago.
Sanchez now joins Azkal Javier Patiño in Thailand. Patiño plays for defending champion Buriram United while another Azkal, Patrick Reichelt, is currently unattached after his contract with Singhtarua was not renewed.
Sanchez thanked Global for making “everything easier” for him and hinted of making a comeback.
“I am indebted (to) Global and all fans for all the love you have given me during these months (that were) so difficult, so here (I) promise to return.”
