LOCAL football reclaims the spotlight as the United Football League resumes with the Football Alliance League Cup on Tuesday in two venues.
After the end of the international break that saw the Philippine men’s football team shut out Papua New Guinea, 5-0, on Sunday, the UFL returns with its season-opening tournament that’s in a crucial stretch in the group stage.
Only the top four teams in the two seven-team groups are going to advance to the quarterfinals.
Group A frontrunner Ceres-La Salle aims to stretch its three-match winning streak as it takes on fourth-running Manila Jeepney at the Emperador Stadium in Taguig at 5:15 p.m.
Simultaneously, Stallion FC and Green Archers United, running fifth and sixth, respectively, in Group A, face off at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
Succeeding the match at Rizal is another Group A fixture pitting second-running Loyola Meralco, bannered by the Younghusband brothers, against third-running Pachanga Diliman at 8:15 p.m.
The lone Group B match features fourth-running Forza tangling with fifth-running Socceroo, the only Division 1 squad outside the Elite Eight circle as of the moment, at Emperador Stadium.
