RICHARD “Ebong” Joson, the Philippine Football Federation marketing and communications head, has been named one of the new match commissioners of the Asian Football Confederation.

Joson earned the position after taking the four-day test earlier this month in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The PFF, through president Nonong Araneta and general secretary Ed Gastanes, endorsed Joson for the program.

Out of 68 applicants, 10 percent passed. The recent passers and existing members will retake the test after two years — a rule enforced only this year.

“It’s such an honor,” Joson told Spin.ph on Saturday. “And I have sir Nonong and attorney Ed to thank, and everyone who has taught me in my three years in the PFF.”

A match commissioner’s duty is basically to oversee technical matters during AFC-sanctioned matches and tournaments.

“It’s crucial that the PFF got an MC in,” Joson said. “It speaks of how far we have moved forward as a footballing nation and as a member association to AFC and Fifa.”
