PHILIPPINE Azkals midfielder Patrick Strauss has arrived for the team’s final build-up for the AFC Asian Cup at the United Arab Emirates.
Strauss, who is playing for German second division side Erzgebirge Aue, arrived on Thursday to complete the 23-man squad for the competition with the Azkals starting off their campaign against South Korea on Monday in Dubai.
Strauss played for the Azkals during the AFF Suzuki Cup but was recalled by his club after the group stage. He was sorely missed in the semifinals as the Azkals dropped their two matches against Vietnam.
Incidentally, Strauss is set to do battle against Korea, which is led by Lee Jae-Sung, who also plays in the German second division.
Top Korean star Son Heung-min, who plays for Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League, will not play in the opening match on Monday against the Azkals but will be joining his team for the other group stage matches.
In a report by The Independent, Son could miss five matches for Tottenham if Korea reaches the final. Tottenham is in the thick of the fight for the Premier League title as they are currently in third place in the table behind Liverpool and Manchester City.
