KRL spoiled Global’s bid to gain early entry to the Asian Football Confederation President’s Cup final round, stunning the Filipinos with a 2-0 win in Day Two of the group stage on Friday night at the Cebu City Sports Complex.
The Pakistani side scored a goal apiece in either side of halftime to secure the win that gained for the squad a tie with the day’s earlier winner, Dordoi Bishkek, with four points.
Dordoi, Kyrgyzstan’s representative in the tournament featuring squads from emerging Asian football nations, has the lead on goal difference, though, after scoring a 9-0 win against Yeedzin earlier.
With the loss, the hosts slid to third place with three points.
Only the top two teams will clinch berths to the finals, leaving the Philippine side with the task of winning its final game on Sunday against Dordoi to advance.
"Not the result that we hoped for... Sorry for disappointing you guys. The road has just become more difficult, but far from insurmountable," Global team owner Dan Palami posted on his Twitter account.
