Officials say Brazil stadium will be ready for World Cup

Dec 13, 2013

WORLD Cup officials in the city of Cuiaba admitted Thursday (Friday, Manila time) they were running behind schedule but insisted the venue would be ready for the tournament in June.

The planned 30 kilometers of tram line won't be ready, raising concerns on how fans will be able to get around the west-central Brazilian city and to its Pantanal arena. Organizers said they would use buses if necessary.

The stadium is now about 90 percent complete, and will be ready to hold test events by the second half of February. The arena is scheduled to hold four World Cup matches, the first on June 13 between Chile and Australia.
