UST booters pound UE; La Salle gets payback over Adamson to end month-long win drought

UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas came alive in the second half as it downed University of the East 2-0 in the UAAP Season 79 men's football tournament on Thursday at the Moro Lorenzo Field in Ateneo.

A splendid solo goal from Conrado Dimacali in the 80th minute wrapped things up for the Tigers, who tied the NU Bulldogs at fourth place with 10 points.

After a quiet first half, Renz Gumban opened things up for the Tigers in the 50th minute after heading in a perfectly sent cross as the Tigers finally got on board.

With the Warriors desperately looking for an equalizer, the Tigers seized on an opportunity to counter. Dimacali was fed the ball right at the top of the halfway line and sprinted past the UE defenders onto to the left.

He then ran circles around his marker before curling in a low ball into the near post to put the finishing touches on what started out as a tightly contested match.

The defeat kept UE at seventh place with four points.

In the second game, La Salle finally ended a four-game winless drought as it exacted revenge on Adamson, 2-0.

Goals from Nicko Villacin in the 67th minute and Jed Diamante in injury time allowed La Salle to get all three points for the first time in a month.

They remained at sixth place, though, with eight points as the Falcons remained in the cellar with three.
