Misagh Bahadoran delivers winner as Global FC spoils Magwe debut in AFC Cup
Though the scoreline looked close, Global was pretty much in control of the match, with its pressure in midfield forcing the Myanmar side to give away possession after possession.

GLOBAL FC opened its 2017 AFC Cup campaign on a high note as it stood tall over tournament newcomer Magwe FC, 1-0, on Tuesday at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

Star forward Misagh Bahadoran scored the lone goal of the match in the 39th minute off a beautiful build-up as the club's loyal supporters, nearly 500 in attendance, erupted in joy.

Bahadoran timed his run well inside the box, received the cross with a beautiful touch before sending the ball past Magwe keeper Kyaw Zhin Pyo and into the back of the net.

Though the scoreline looked close, Global was pretty much in control of the match, with its pressure in midfield forcing the Myanmar side to give away possession after possession.

"Maybe (we wanted more goals). You hope for more goals. But the opponent came prepared and they came in very strong," said Global FC head coach Imai Toshiaki.

The Philippine side had plenty of chances to double their lead in the second half but none resulted in goals for the home crowd.

Nonetheless, the Philippine representative were happy to come away vwith the win after dropping two consecutive games in their maiden campaign in the tournament back in 2015.

"Today was a great game but I think we need to be more calm. Hopefully next game we'll get better," said defender Wesley dos Santos who was a rock on defense for Global.

Up next for Global is an away game against Cambodian squad Boeung Key Ankor on March 7.

Meantime, Ceres came away with a point in Vietnam as it drew with Hanoi FC, 1-1.

The Negros-based side went ahead following Bienve Maranon's goal in the 49th minute but the home side was still able to save a point as Nguyen Van Quyet's acrobatic goal in the 58th minute leveled the match.
