LIVERPOOL, England — Dejan Lovren completed an exhilarating Liverpool comeback in stoppage time to beat Borussia Dortmund 4-3 and earn manager Juergen Klopp a Europa League semifinal place at the expense of his former club in the most dramatic manner on Thursday (Friday, Manila time).

Liverpool had the edge going into the second leg after drawing 1-1 in Germany, but threw that advantage away in the opening nine minutes by sloppily conceding possession and allowing Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to score.

Divock Origi gave Liverpool a lifeline at the start of the second half, but Marco Reus restored Dortmund's two-goal advantage. Liverpool didn't give up, with Philippe Coutinho and Mamadou Sakho netting. At 4-4, Dortmund was set to advance on away goals until Lovren powered in the header a minute into injury time.

The Anfield encounter had all the unpredictability lacking in Ukraine where Shaktar Donetsk crushedSporting Braga 4-0 to advance 6-1 on aggregate. Villarreal won at Sparta Prague 4-2 to go into the semifinal draw with a 6-3 aggregate win. Sevilla's game against Athletic Bilbao went into extra time.
