JPV Marikina moves up in PFL by frustrating hosts Davao Aguilas in five-goal thriller

JPV Marikina FC engaged Davao Aguilas FC in a five-goal thriller and came away victorious with a 3-2 win in the 2017 Philippines Football League (PFL) on Sunday in Tagum.

Takashi Odawara put JPV ahead just two minutes in but Dylan de Bruycker equalized for the home side six minutes later with a rocket from just inside the box, setting the tone for an exciting game.

The Marikeños however were relentless on attack, patiently building their offense through short passes and gap filling.

They were rewarded in the 20th minute when they won a free kick from just outside the box. Veteran booter Boyet Canedo curled his attempt past the wall and into the back of the net for the go-ahead goal.

Takumi Uesato, a threat all afternoon on the left flank, was rewarded as he was left unmarked off the corner for a header into the near post in the 84th minute to pad Marikina's lead to two goals.

Not even a De Brucker penalty in added time could save the Aguilas from falling to another loss.

The win allowed Marikina to move to third spot with three points after two games.
