CERES Negros continued to pile up the points in Group F of the 2018 AFC Cup after a 1-0 victory over Shan United on Wednesday at the TYC Stadium in Myanmar.

Bienve Maranon scored the lone goal of the night to tow the visiting side from Bacolod to all three points in this crucial tussle against the dangerous Burmese side.

The win allowed Ceres Negros to move six points clear of the group with 10 points, although Home United is currently winning against Boeung Ket Angkor in their match at posting time.

Shan United remained in third with three points.

The prolific Spaniard won the penalty after a reckless tackle by Hein Phyo Win from inside the box early on. Maranon, who missed a penalty against Home United two weeks ago, calmly slotted the ball past team skipper Thiha Sithu in the 15th minute.

The home squad threatened a few times, with their best chance coming in the 61st minute after Lin Tun was left with space in the box. Thankfully, Carli de Murga was there to break up the attack.

The visitors had a chance to double the lead in the 80th minute when Stephan Schrock found OJ Porteria inside the box but Porteria’s attempt hit the near post before being denied by Sithu.

Ceres Negros will visit Boeung Ket Angkor in Cambodia on April 11 as it looks to draw closer to a second consecutive appearance in the knockout stages.

The last time the two squads faced off, Ceres won easily, 9-0, in Panaad.
