AFTER spending his professional career in England, Neil Etheridge is moving to Southeast Asia after signing up with Buriram United FC in Thailand.
The 34-year-old Filipino goalkeeper joins the winningest club in Thailand that captured its 10th league title last season.

“Delighted to have signed for [Buriram United]. An honour to be here at this fantastic powerhouse. I can’t wait to get started on this new journey and adventure. Thank you for all the support to make this happen,” Etheridge wrote on his Instagram account.
Etheridge reflects on time with Birmingham City
Etheridge made the transfer after playing for Birmingham City from 2020-2024 in the English Football League Championship, the second division competition in the country.
In his eyes, his old club was a huge help to him during tough times. That includes life away from the pitch, as it was also during his time with Birmingham City where he was able to recover from a serious condition related to COVID-19.
“A time in my career with many new experiences and challenges along the way. I met some great people who I now consider friends, they will not be forgotten… getting me through tough and difficult times,” he said.
“I would like to thank my family and loved ones for your constant and unconditional support. Finally, I wish the club all the best in the future for this new journey they are about to embark on.”
The Philippine men's national football team (PMNFT) skipper also had stints in English clubs such as Fulham, Oldham Athletic, Charlton Athletic, Walsall, and Cardiff City.
With the move, Etheridge is now closer to home for call-ups with the nationals, whom he has played with since 2008.
