TWO overseas-raised Filipino goalkeepers have found new English homes.
Neil Etheridge has signed a four-year deal with Birmingham City, while Fulham has acquired Alphonse Areola on loan from Paris Saint-Germain.
The 30-year-old Etheridge spent the last three seasons with Cardiff City, anchoring the defense of the club in its promotion to the Premier League and the squad’s year in the first division.
“We made some fantastic memories together and I’ll never forget the part the Club and supporters played. I wish the club every success in the future,” Etheridge said in an Instagram post.
Now, the Filipino-British Azkals goalkeeper can help another second-tier side in Birmingham City, which finished 20th in the Championship last season.
The Filipino-French Areola, on the other hand, last played for Real Madrid where he was also on loan and suited up four times in the club’s La Liga championship run.
The 27-year-old France national team netminder now reinforces a Fulham side that’s back in England’s first division following its promotion after emerging as the playoff winner in the second tier.
