THE FILIPINAS begin their campaign in the Pink Ladies Cup on Saturday when it faces Jordan during their FIFA international window in Antalya, Turkey.
The Philippine women’s football team compete in its first international friendly in six months, the squad's last appearance coming last April when it lost two matches to Korea.
Pacheco set for debut
Anticipation in this international window is on a high with highly-touted Maz Pacheco, who plays as a defender for Aston Villa in the Women’s Super League, expected to make her Philippine debut after being called up for training camp.
Also called up for the training camp were former UCLA defender Janae Defazio and striker Nina Mathelus, a member of the youth team.
“We have some fresh faces. It’s always fun seeing new people coming in and bringing their character and football to this team,” said Filipinas midfieder Sara Eggesvik.
“It’s a good mix of the old players or the ones who have been on the team for a while, and also young players, girls who have been with the U17. It’s good for them to have a chance to show themselves here,” she added.
PWNT will also go up against Kenya on October 30.
In other Philippine football news, Kaya FC-Iloilo suffered a 2-1 loss to Eastern FC last Thursday in the AFC Champions League Two at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
Noah Baffoe scored the winner in the 78th minute for the Hong Kong side after Kaya equalized from a penalty kick by Kaishu Yamazaki in the 45th, sending the home team to its third loss in Group C.
The match was originally scheduled on Wednesday night but was suspended due to the strong rains and winds caused by tropical storm Kristine.
Kaya’s defeat came two days after Dynamic Herb Cebu FC drew with Thailand side Muangthong United, 2-2, on a 93rd-minute goal by Rintaro Hama.
The Philippines Football League has also postponed its Saturday and Sunday matches due to Kristine.
