FAR Eastern University claimed its second straight title with a 2-1 victory over University of Santo Tomas on Sunday in Game Two of the UAAP women’s football finals at the FEU Diliman field.
Sharmine Siaotong scored in the 19th minute while Alesa Dolino added in the 56th as the Lady Tamaraws completed a sweep of the Tigresses.
Marice Magdolot put UST on the scoreboard in the 89th but the Tigresses couldn’t come up with a match-tying goal in the waning moments of Game Two.
FEU, which took Game One, 1-0, bagged their third crown in four seasons.
It was a sweet win for the Lady Tamaraws, who barely made it past Ateneo to the finals after finishing in second spot with 12 points, over a UST side that took the top seeding with 13 points.
“Sobrang saya, nawala lahat ng pagod namin,” said FEU coach Marinel Dimzon. “Ang motivation namin, kailangang tapusin na namin para next day, wala ng training.”
“Noong elimination round, nawalan kami ng mga players kaya nahirapan kami mag-rotate ng mga players especially sa gitna. By the end of the first round, na-solusyunan namin ‘yun,” Dimzon added.
FEU’s Mae Suliano won the Most Valuable Player award in her final year with the squad.
Other awardees are Jena Abuan of UST (Best Defender), Barbie Sobredo of FEU (Best Midfielder and Best Striker), Zipporah Luna of UST (Best Goalkeeper), Mary Rose Obra of University of the Philippines (Rookie of the Year), and De La Salle (Fair Play).
