Kaya held to a third straight draw by Nomads

KAYA'S poor finishing was exposed anew as it settled for a third straight draw, this time a 1-1 standoff with Nomads on Thursday night at the Emperador Stadium in Taguig, further making its climb tougher in the United Football League.

Last year’s runner-up failed to build on Nate Burkey’s goal eight minutes into the game as Kaya allowed Nomads to knot the count early in the second half courtesy of Fidelis Nnabuife.

Although the squad gained a point for a total of 18 and remained in fourth place, Kaya has been unable to get maximum points as its hopes of contending for the title continued to become more improbable.

“We’re in a funk right now. We’ve seen better days,” Kaya skipper Anton del Rosario said. “We all have to come together as a team and find the intensity and find everything.”

Sorely missing the services of teenage sensation OJ Porteria, who’s out for reaching the yellow card booking limit, Kaya lacked offensive punch throughout. Sean Iliff and Antonio Ugarte created chances, but bungled their close-range attempts in the second half.

“Big problem was communication,” Del Rosario said. “We need somebody to take leadership and start demanding and it wasn’t happening in the game. With communication comes organization. It’s just one of those games. We’ll get out of it.”

Nomads gladly took the result as it snapped a five-game skid and increased its point total to 12 points, moving the squad ahead of PSG for sixth place.
