KAYA failed to capitalize on its quick start and settle to a 1-1 draw against Green Archers United on a rainy Tuesday night in the second game of the United Football League Cup opener at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
After Nate Burkey scored early, Kaya slowed down, seemingly affected by the heavy downpour, and surrendered a late goal from Tatang Pasilan to allow the stalemate, and gave both the Group B squads a point each.
It didn’t take long for the LBC-owned club to light up the scoring column as Burkey, a national team pool player, scored just five minutes into the game after taking advantage of an error by Green Archers’ keeper Patrick Deyto.
Showing more aggressiveness in the second half, the Green Archers were finally rewarded as Pasilan’s free kick off a Nico Bolzico foul found the back of the net in the 88th minute to equalize the game.
In a last-ditch effort to regain the lead and win the game for his team, Kaya defender Anton del Rosario took matters into his own hands and tried to score, but his stoppage time shot from inside the box went straight to Deyto’s chest.
