KAYA FC hit a bump in its bid to make the Asian Football Confederation Cup knockout stage as it lost to Kitchee, 1-0, on Tuesday at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
The Philippine side surrendered a late goal against the visitors from Hong Kong, ending its three-match winning streak.
Kitchee thus overtook its victims on top of Group F with 10 points, ahead by one of Kaya, which needs to win its last match against New Radiant in Maldives to avoid complications of becoming the first Philippine team to reach the knockout stage of the continental competition.
Hirokane Haruma struck the heartbreaker five minutes before stoppage time, the Kitchee substitute scoring off the rebound five minutes after coming in.
“Nadale kami sa experience nila,” Kaya stand-in coach Joel Villarin said. "We just have to learn from our mistake."
“We had some late lapses,” winger Miguel Tanton added. “We’re still confident heading into the next match to take the three points.”
