JOVIN Bedic came through at the most opportune time, scoring late in extra time to tow Kaya-Iloilo to a 1-0 win over the Davao Aguilas and become the first Copa Paulino Alcantara champions on Saturday at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.
Bedic, a native of Barotac Nuevo Iloilo, scored on the 118th minute as he teed off a beautiful feed from Robert Lopez-Mendy to break the long stalemate and hit the winning goal.
The win meant that Kaya will be back in the continental stage after a two year absence as it became the second team to qualify for the AFC Cup.
They'll be joining Ceres Negros in the continental tournament after the Bacolod-based squad qualified by winning the Philippines Football League title.
It was a disappointing finish for the Aguilas who have shown vast improvement through key acquisitions and coaching changes over the past months.
Those improvements, however, have yet to produce silverwares for them.
