MARWIN Angeles saved a point for the hosts as Kaya FC Makati held Ceres Negros FC to a 1-1 draw in the opener of the Philippines Football League on Saturday at the University of Makati field.
A late inclusion in the match, Angeles quickly made his presence felt as he equalized in the 69th minute, much to the delight of the 1,300 fans in attendance, mostly supporting Kaya.
"Malaking tulong yung one point for the first game. Nagbibigay siya ng morale ng team," said Kaya coach Noel Marcaida.
"For me I think it was a very influential sub. He and Eric (Giganto) really had a huge impact and made a big difference in the game," he added.
It was a much needed goal for Makati as Ceres came in firing and pressuring from the get go.
This eventually resulted into the first goal of the match courtesy of Iain Ramsay who scored on a tight angle just before the half.
They would have been up two nil had Omid Nazari's free kick been converted in the 61st minute.
Ceres had many chances late in the game, including a header from Joshua Gromman which Zach Banzon saved.
It was a result Ceres could live with especially after coming off a grueling AFC Cup match against Tampines Rovers just three days back.
"It's always nice to score a goal but I would have been happy with the three points. But we had a tough schedule, to play today we had to show character and that's exactly what we did," said Ramsay.
