KAYA FC-Iloilo beat Globe Green Archers United, 3-0, Saturday to earn the distinction as the first match winner in the inaugural Philippine Premier League (PPL) at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.
Darryl Roberts scored in the 11th minute and Jovin Bedic quickly made it 2-0 five minutes later. Yannick Tuason converted the final goal of the match in the 79th.
Kaya FC also welcomed Azkals legend and Simone Rota for his first competitive match in nine months to lead the defense.
Kaya played in the opener three days before its AFC Cup away match against Lao Toyota FC.
In the first-ever match of the PPL, Mendiola FC and Philippine Air Force ended in a 2-2 draw.
Nimrod Balabat scored the league’s first-ever goal in the eighth minute for Mendiola, but Rudolf Bebanco leveled in the 39th.
Papu Corsame gave Mendila the lead, 2-1, in the 59th, but 46-year-old Yanti Barsales tied the match in the 79th.
