KAYA and Pachanga-Diliman failed to build on the momentum of their recent success as they fought to a 1-1 draw on Saturday night in the United Football League at the Emperador Stadium in Taguig.
Coming off a remarkable 3-2 win over defending champion Global last time, Kaya battled Pachanga, an on-the-rise squad riding a three-winning streak, in an evenly matched affair that ended with the two clubs tied on 16 points.
Kaya, though, maintained its six-point lead over Kaya on goal difference to remain in fourth place. Both clubs are still seven points behind third-running Loyola Meralco.
Pachanga appeared poised to stretch its winning streak after Marcus Lopez gave the 2012 Division 2 titlist the lead with a strike 17 minutes into the game.
Kaya, however, retaliated just four minutes later, courtesy of Eric Dagroh as the game went back and forth from then on.
“This team (Kaya) coming off a win against Global, mataas ang morale nila. We wanted to get the solo fourth. Akala namin makukuha na namin kasi we had the first goal, pero nakabawi sila,” Pachanga coach Noel Marcaida said.
Kaya mentor David Perkovic, for his part, rued his team’s inconsistency after its failure to finish off its rally.
“We didn’t get off to a good start. We gave away a very cheap goal. It was disappointing. It’s good we got back into the game early after we conceded. (But) just nothing was sticking tonight.”
There will be little time to ponder about the result for both as Kaya and Pachanga plunge back into action on Tuesday, taking on Green Archers United and Loyola Meralco, respectively.
“The main task now for us is to make sure we recover in time for that game,” Perkovic said.
