JPV Marikina opened the 2018 Philippines Football League with a bang as it held off Global Cebu 2-1 on Saturday evening at the Marikina Sports Complex.
Playing in their home court for the first time, JPV gave the fans in Marikina a match to remember as Keigo Moriyasu and Ryuki Kozawa scored on opposite halves to give the hosts all three points in the opener.
Moriyasu scored the first goal of the season, shocking the Cebuano defense with a stunning strike from outside the box to push the home team ahead in the 13th minute.
Kozawa then put the game out of reach, getting on the back of the net in the 75th minute to give the hosts some breathing room.
That goal proved to be crucial as Dom Del Rosario pulled one back for the finalists of the first season, scoring from a free kick in the 88th minute.
But there was no comeback from the visiting side as JPV foiled every Global attempt late to secure all the points in the opener.
PFL resumes action on Sunday when the Davao Aguilas host Kaya Iloilo at the Davao del Norte Sports Complex.
