FAR Eastern University completed a football double in UAAP Season 76, winning the men’s crown with a 1-0 victory over University of the Philippines at the FEU-Diliman pitch in Quezon City.

FEU earlier won the women’s tiara over University of Santo Tomas, 2-1.

It was FEU’s ninth championship in both divisions.

While the women’s squad clinched back-to-back titles, the men’s team won for the first time since Season 72.

The Morayta-based school looks to complete a golden treble as the juniors’ squad faces Ateneo on Saturday.

The Tamaraws struggled early on but were rewarded what turned out to be the only goal they needed when Jess Mellizza, the league’s top scorer, headed the ball above Fighting Maroons goalkeeper Ace Villanueva in the 72nd minute.

"He [Melliza] had good ability today," said FEU's Korean coach Kim Chul Su. “And the team gave its 1,000 percent effort.”

Paolo Bugas, FEU's lethal weapon in finishing first in the eliminations, was named Most Valuable Player, while teammate Arnel Amita was awarded Best Midfielder. Villanueva was named Best Goalkeeper and fellow Green Booter Patchy Santos the Rookie of the Year.
