FC Meralco Manila continued its fine form in the early stages of the Philippines Football League as it hacked out a 1-0 win over JPV Marikina FC on Saturday at the Binan Football Stadium.
James Younghusband was the lone goal scorer with a header in the 64th minute on a well taken corner from his brother Phil to break the deadlock.
It was a tough match for the Sparks who had seven goals in their first two wins but was forced into a grind by a gritty JPV Marikina.
It also a display of excellent goalkeeping from keepers Ace Villanueva of Meralco and JPV’s Nelson Gasic.
JPV had several chances to salvage a draw, with Kouichi Belgira getting close in added time.
Meralco stayed on top of the table with nine points after three games.
JPV, on the other hand, remained at the middle of the pack, having dropped two of their three games for three points.
