EXPECT a more balanced tournament when the new season of the United Football League Cup kicks off on October 2 at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
UFL chairman and Kaya owner Santi Araneta was definitely convinced about this upon seeing the teams being placed in their respective groups during the UFL Cup main draw at the Krocodile Grill in Greenbelt on Friday.
“Every year teams are improving so it’s anyone’s game,” he said.
“More dispersed ang teams ngayon compared to last year,” said Randy Roxas, the UFL chairman and owner of Loyola, which leads the cast in Group C along with Nomads, Pachanga, Laos, and Mendiola.
Roxas added the “strong” groups are A and D, while the “balanced” ones are B and C.
Global, the reigning league champion, heads Group A along with Pasargad, Navy, General Trias, and Socceroo, while Group D is bannered by defending Cup titlist Philippine Air Force, along with Stallion, Philippine Army, Sta. Lucia, and Agila.
Araneta’s team is in Group B along with Green Archers, Diliman, Forza, and Dolphins United.
Global begins hostilities in the knockout tournament as it takes on Pasargad at 5 p.m. while Kaya collides with Green Archers two hours later.
