THE Philippine men’s football team continued its rise in the world rankings, notching a new all-time high despite being idle in April.
The Azkals didn’t see action last month, but still moved up one spot to 115th in the latest Fifa (International Football Federation) rankings released on Thursday, a month after moving 19 places up to reach their new record.
The steady climb can still be credited to their solid showing in the World Cup/Asian Cup second-round qualifying campaign, which the Filipino booters capped off with a stunning 3-2 win over two-time World Cup veteran North Korea last March.
The Philippines regained its place as the best team in Southeast Asia and 16th best in the entire continent.
Argentina, Belguim, Chile, Colombia, and Germany kept their spots in the Top Five in the world, as well as the rest of the Top 50 after a relatively inactive month.
