FOOTBALL legend Fabio Cannavaro has vowed to help James Younghusband settle a score with brother Phil in the second edition of the Clear Dream Match that kicks off on Saturday at the University of Makati pitch.
Cannavaro, skipper of the Italian team that ruled the 2006 Fifa World Cup, will beef up Team James, which is out to avenge its setback to Team Phil last year during the inaugural staging of the biggest football all-star game put up by Clear, the number one men’s shampoo brand.
“Last year’s match was one sided, this year I want to help James even the score,” said Cannavaro, the Naples-born booter who was named Fifa World Player of the Year when Italy won the World Cup.
Another football great in Dennis Wise, on the other hand, will bolster Team Phil.
“Like Phil I love to win and I always love to score goals, and that’s the type of team I want to be associated with,” Wise said for his part.
The legends’ addition will definitely raise the level of competition in the meet presented by Smart, Greenwich, Seda Hotels, Adidas, Gatorade, Rappler and TechnoMarine.
Cannavaro is considered one of the greatest defenders of his generation, earning the nickname 'Muro di Berlino' (The Berlin Wall) for his defensive exploits throughout Italy’s triumphant campaign in the 2006 World Cup, especially in the final against France in Berlin.
A central midfielder known for his aggressive style, Wise captained the Chelsea teams that won the FA Cup in 1997 and 2000, the League Cup in 1998 and the Uefa Winner’s Cup in 1998.
The composition of Team James and Team Phil has been completed recently, with fans helping determine the cast of stalwarts from the Azkals, UFL, and college leagues and local celebs through more than four weeks of voting on Clear’s Facebook page.
Phil and Wise will team up with Carlie de Murga, Jeff Christiaens, Park Min Ho, OJ Porteria, Patrick Deyto, Chad Gould, Masai Omura, Jinggoy Valmayor, Chris Greatwich, Byeong Yeol Jeong, Anton Del Rosario, Boyet Canedo, Sam Y G, Nick O'Donnell, Armand del Rosario, Mikko Mabanag, and Ronald Batisla-Ong
