THE PHILIPPINE women’s national football team will be playing in front of home fans and compete in a pocket tournament in Turkey in what is going to be a busy fourth quarter of the year for the Filipinas.

Philippine Football Federation director of national teams Freddy Gonzales said the Filipinas will have three matches at home in the November 25-December 7 international window that includes a match against the Under-20 side.

“This October for the window, we are going to play in Turkey,” said Gonzales on Friday at the close of the Filipinas’ training camp at the Rizal Memorial Stadium. “We will be playing in a tournament and we will be playing against Jordan, Haiti, and Mali although Mali is still 50-50.”

“That’s going to be a really good tournament for the Filipinas,” said Gonzales.

Bolden to head lineup

Gonzales said the Philippines’ top guns including star striker Sarina Bolden will be in action in the Turkey tournament as well as in the November-December FIFA window.

“Expect that overseas-based players are going to be there. So the Sarina Boldens of the world will be there,” said Gonzales.

PWNT’s activities will also coincide with the men’s team’s friendlies as part of their preparation for the AFF Mitsubishi Electric Cup (formerly AFF Suzuki Cup) that will start on December 9.

The men’s team is already scheduled to play a friendly at home on November 19. The PMNT will also play home matches in the Mitsubishi Electric Cup.

“The women’s team will have three matches here along with the U20 so the women’s U20 will be here as well in November all the way to December. So in a span of a month, we will actually have seven home games between the Filipinas and the men’s,” said Gonzales.

“I think it will be the first time in the history of the Philippines where we’ve had that many games in a span of a month. That is something that should be really exciting for the fans to look forward to,” said Gonzales.
