GLOBAL FC settled a score against Tampines Rovers, rolling to a 2-0 victory to move closer to reaching the main tournament of the Asian Football Confederation Champions League on Tuesday night at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
The Philippine representative stood its defensive ground in the first half against a visiting side that eliminated the squad from the Singapore Cup last year, before cranking it up on offense after intermission to score the shutout victory.
Japanese-Iraqi import Ahamd Azzawi and Misagh Bahadoran registered in the scoresheet for Global, which advanced to the second preliminary round of the top-tier club competition in the continent.
“I told you, guys, that we would win at home after losing twice to Tampines in Singapore,” Bahadoran said.
“I’m so happy to be part of this biggest victory ever by a Philippine football club,” the Azkals star added.
The PH club takes on Australian side Brisbane Roar in another knockout match on next Tuesday in the opponent’s turf.
